Some tips to protect you and your vehicle:
- Be careful of unauthorized tow truck operators pressuring you to have your vehicle towed, demanding immediate payment or attempting to take your vehicle to a garage or body shop of their choice. Tow trucks may not solicit business within 200 metres of a collision scene or car, unless called there by police or an involved driver.
- Before towing your vehicle the tow truck driver is also required to fill out and have you sign a "Permission to Tow" form which is to be completed prior to the start of any towing. Only you can authorize your vehicle to be towed. (A police officer also can authorize towing if a vehicle location is a safety hazard).
- Tow truck drivers must tow your vehicle where you instruct them to tow it.
- Be cautious of signing any documents other than those related to the towing of your vehicle.
